Sahar Mustafah is the daughter of immigrants; her father was from Al Bireh and her mother was from Al Khaleel. She lived in Palestine from 1983 through 1988, during the First Intifada, where she attended Friends Girls School. It is a period she considers the best and most formative of her life, before returning to Chicago with her family. Her first novel The Beauty of Your Face was named a 2020 Notable Book and Editor’s Choice by New York Times Book Review and one of Marie Claire Magazine’s 2020 Best Fiction by Women. It is a finalist for the 2021 Palestine Book Award and was long-listed for the Center for Fiction 2020 First Novel Prize. Her short story collection Code of the West was the winner of the 2016 Willow Books Fiction Award. Her latest short story, “The Bodies,” appears in the special Palestine Voices issues of World Literature Today. Mustafah earned her MFA in fiction from Columbia College Chicago where she was the recipient of the David Friedman Award for Best Fiction. She writes and teaches outside of Chicago.

Nasser Nabhan is a Palestinian-American educator that has taught young children in Chicago and Palestine. He holds a B.A. from Indiana University-Bloomington in History and Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and an M.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Dominican University in Illinois.  He lives in Chicagoland with his family.
